TEST PILOT CYCLE 008 RECAP: Stormfleece Pro
A diverse squad of sailors, surfers, special forces & more put the next generation of STORMFLEECE through the paces and came back with the field notes to prove it.
Here’s their feedback.
JOSH
SKI INSTRUCTOR
“Love it as a layer over my mountain biking jersey. Wore it through occasional showers here in Utah on my rides, and it repelled the water nicely. With high activity, high heart rate moments, it really performed well. I had difficulty figuring out where it sat in my layering, so better communication on that would be my recommendation to the team.”
DAVE O
TEST PILOT CAPTAIN, TRAIL RUNNER, SURFER
“When paired with Off Grid Fleece or PrimaLoft, this thing let me be outside for hours. it’s a Swiss Army Knife… it does a lot of things very well.”
RUBEN RUCKMAN
CLIMBER, OUTDOORSMAN
“I was in some pretty wintery conditions, but as long as I was keeping my heart rate up, I was fine. Due to the stretchiness, I could definitely layer it. The sleeves were a bit short for me, especially when climbing. It would be good if it could pack into its own pocket so I could shed the layer when climbing.”
KYLE
SURFER, SAILOR, WHALE WATCH CAPTAIN
I couldn’t layer it as well as I could have when it got super cold. I definitely felt what everyone was talking about with the sleeves a little short. When I was active, the sleeves felt short.
MAX PARRAGUE
SURFER, FISHERMAN, FREE DIVER
“I'm often deployed and this has become a go-to. I haven't washed it in 6 weeks, it still smells brand new. The zipper isn’t as durable as I'd like. Maybe going to a YKK would be better. It adapts to your surroundings. If I'm cold, it keeps me warm. If I'm warm, it thermoregulates. It's been good in temperate, cold and windy conditions.”
ZACH V
BODYBOARDER, COLD WATER TUBE HUNTER
“Super versatile jacket. I can wear it from the office to the wilderness without skipping a beat.”
TOBY J
COMPETITIVE CLIMBER, CLIMBING COACH, ELECTRICAL ENGINEER, SURFER
“The durability of the garment was definitely a highlight when climbing. it was not as warm as i thought it would be, but not sure that was the intention of the jacket.”
BEN CHISWELL
AUSSIE SAND DUNE EXPLORER, REMOTE WAVE HUNTER
“It's been really fickle weather here in the Australian summer, and the jacket has been the perfect versatile piece for checking waves up and down the coast here and keeping me protected in all conditions.”
